City Tribes is a photo essay, one chapter of an ongoing exploration following the voguing (and Ball culture) around Europe. Their houses serve as alternative families, led by “mothers” and “fathers”, which provide guidance to their house “children”.

Imagine a world where these photographs were discovered in an explorer’s 19th century travel journal. This presents us with an alternative view of romanticized colonialism.
